Tunng

Saturday afternoon

We are glad to welcome Tunng back this year after their mesmerising appearance at the first Moseley folk Festival. The band over the last 2 years have gone from strength to strength and are set to be folk legends of the future.

Tunng play a mesmerising mix of folky acoustics and busy electronica, overlaying electronic crackles, gorgeous harmonies, bewitching mantras and synthetic beats that are reminiscent 60’s psychedelic folk innovators The Incredible String Band crossed with the Beta Band, 'The Wicker Man' soundtrack and Four Tet.

With their strikingly fresh take on folk music, Tunng's debut album - Mother's Daughter and Other Songs - was a masterpiece, updating the genre with a pronounced digital edge. This follow-up turns its back on some of the things that made them so good in the first place, but adds a whole selection of new ingredients which are guaranteed to put willing ears under their spell.

Tunng's second full-length outing is expansive and expressive, and their ideas and execution leave them head and shoulders above their nu folk contemporaries. An intoxicating listen, and one of the records of the year.
