The Junipers
It was the year 2000 & in the burning embers of the 20th century, something happened that, on the surface, seemed incredibly ordinary. A young aspiring musician named Joe Wiltshire bought himself an 8-track recorder and began to plot his masterpiece. However, this wasn't some kid wanting to re-write songs from the last decade... this kid had loftier ambitions.Wiltshire cut his teeth in school bands in the garages of the land and stumbled across an unlikely ally. Marc Johnston may have had little in common with Wiltshire, but what they did share was a love of finely crafted psychedelic music. They ditched the high school circuit and started thinking about baroque masterpieces.
Initially deciding that they would be a studio-only band the pair bunkered up, pressed record and let the ideas come tumbling. Marc took the majority of vocals while Joe crafted, invented and let glorious music pour through his soul.
Like all good mavericks, Joe took a leap of faith. He cast aside the day job and gave himself whole to the musical Gods. The Junipers were beginning to take shape. Unlike your average band, painfully drawing out song after song, The Junipers rolled out tracks by the hundred. Prolific doesn't do this group justice. By 2006 they were sitting on a pop goldmine, & the year saw the birth of their own label, Cuckoo Records, the building of their own studio and the formation of a 5 piece live band.
As well as Joe and Marc, The Junipers saw the addition of Pete Gough on guitar, Stuart Pratt on drums and Liam Riley on bass. Between them all, they had a record collection worth dying for and not only that, they had somehow managed to draw on that wealth of sonic schooling to create a truly incredible and unique sound.
So, from being hermit like psychedelic warlords, The Junipers had suddenly found themselves a great live draw. Playing up and down the country and leaving jaws on the floor wherever they went, The Junipers were creating a stir. So much so that radio and TV people had started to invite them to share their genius. It wouldn't be long before someone recognised their talents. It seems that classic pop never goes out of fashion.
Not keen on sitting around and waiting, The pair recorded three demo albums, gave them away to those who understood and before long, indie label San Remo, the baby of ex-Felt guitarist Marco Thomas, eventually signed the project & set Joe to work on recording the Junipers first album proper.
So where's the LP? The Junipers debut "Cut Your Key" was recorded in 2007 and is set for release in 2008.
